Police are investigating after a pair of suspicious hedge fires were extinguished in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 2.
The Kelowna RCMP and the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a report of a hedge fire at about 1:34 a.m. located on the 400 block of Highway 33 east in Kelowna.
The heat from the blaze caused damage to nearby garbage bins and vegetation. This blaze was extinguished before the flames could spread to nearby residences.
One hour later, police responded to a report of a second hedge fire, this time on the 100 block of Ponto Road in Kelowna. When emergency personnel arrived, the fire had spread to involve a large shed on the property.
The occupants of the residence were not home at the time. Kelowna firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread and cause more damage.
Police are treating both fires as suspicious and continue to investigate the possibility that both are related.
