The South Similkameen Branch 192 (Keremeos) of the Royal Canadian Legion has made available to the Community over $30,000 in funding this past year. These donations were made possible by funds raised by the Legion through their Saturday and Monday Meat Draws, Texas Hold’em Poker Nights, Friday Bunny Races and 50/50 draws. All funds raised through BC Gaming licensed events are returned to the community in the way of donations and assistance. The Legion itself does not benefit from these activities however associations and non-profit societies such as:
Similkameen Elementary Secondary School Parent Advisory Council; BC Special Olympics (Keremeos); Kars Under the K; Friends of the Library; South Similkameen Museum Society; South Similkameen Art Society; Friends of the Keremeos Skating Rink; Orchard Haven Care Facility; Lower Similkameen Community Services.
All of these organizations were able to continue their own programs and activities with funding assistance provided thru the Legion’s charity donations program.
Also from this fund five bursaries of $1,000 each were awarded to: Alex Helm, Savanna Yamamoto, Jazlyn Agar, Evan Reichl, and Katelyn Forner to continue with their education.
The Legion was able to assist three families in need over the last year with emergency funds as well as the building fund of the Penticton Hospital. This in addition to the 10 Christmas Hampers given within the community. All made possible through the local community support and generous volunteers of the Legion who give of their time to make these events successful.
Please continue to give your support to the Legion so the Legion can continue to support the community. Thank-You for your support.
