Weekend emergency services report in the Keremeos area

Driver escapes truck rollover with minor injuries

On Friday, August 1, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Kevin Bertrand of Keremeos was driving a logging truck on Highway 3 near the Lawrence Ranch when the trailer load shifted, causing the trailer and cab to flip. Bertrand, who escaped with bruises, was trapped in the vehicle until rescue crews could arrive to extricate him. He expressed his thanks to two passers-by who stopped and stayed with him until further help arrived. The accident closed Highway 3 for two hours while highway crews cleaned up the spilled logs.

MVA results in death of Cawston man

On August 2 at approximately 9:45 a.m., Keremeos Ambulance and Keremeos RCMp attended a single vehicle rollover on Chopaka Road, south of Cawston. A lone male driver lost control of a pick up truck, which overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has since been identified as Charles Seymour, 47, of Cawston.

RCMP continue their investigation into the accident.

Rash of theft from vehicles over long weekend

Police report a rash of theft from vehicles over the long weekend in Keremeos. Cars parked along Twelfth Avenue and adjacent streets were victimized, several of the vehicles easy targets as they were unlocked.

Police remind residents to lock their doors to help prevent theft.
