The RCMP are getting tough on… dogs.
Cpl. Brian Evans of the Keremeos RCMP detachment said he handed out a ticket to a dog owner Monday after seeing the owner out with two dogs that were off-leash.
“This is the second time. Last time I saw this I told the owner next time you’re going to get a $50 ticket and this time they did,” he said.
Dogs must be on-leash in Keremeos unless at the dog park or on private property.
“Keep your dogs tied up or we will lay fines. No one wants to be followed by your dog. No one wants to hit your dog. Dogs are supposed to be on-leash. There’s only a very small population of people that have dogs that are so well behaved that they can control them while off-leash,” he said.
The fine if ticketed is $50.
“It’s just a bad idea,” he said. “I know people are so tempted to immediately post and update every single activity they are doing on Facebook, but you have to be aware that someone who wants to use that for a criminal purpose, they now know you are in Alberta or you aren’t in your home.”
Although there hasn’t been any recent breakins related to people knowing other away because of social media, Evans has heard of it happening quite a lot.
His advice is to post photos of your trip after you return and focus more on being in the moment than updating your friends on Facebook.
