Players on the Nakusp Minor Soccer teams were treated on Wednesday and Saturday with visits from Kaslo and Revelstoke squads. Kaslo’s mixed team played two games against the two Nakusp teams on Wednesday night.
In game one, keepers Adam Volansky and Kirnen Troute backed up the barrage of goals scored by the Nakusp squad with a decisive shut-out.
Tim Barisoff kicked off the scoring, which was followed by netted efforts from Devon Coates and the infamous “twin assist” goals from Kylie and Garrett Waterfield. The Nakusp team won 6-0.
In the second game, Kaslo was all warmed up and fought hard for two goals, but found themselves on the wrong side of a 4-2 game final against the Nakusp Red Shirts. Riley Drediger was the first Red Shirt to tickle the twine and was followed by a second half hattrick from Troute, who played in both games.
On Saturday the Revelstoke and Nakusp all-girl squads faced off during an intense back and forth battle on the sunny pitch. The teams were evenly matched, trading off control of the game and close chances, each trying to find chinks in the opponent’s defensive amour.
Kimberly Roberts almost settled the match in the second half when she was moved up to the striker position. In a decisive rush at the net Roberts sent the ball flying, just missing the top right corner by a post. The game could not decide on a winner, and the match ended with a draw.
Revelstoke and Nakusp teams faced off again with the under 10 girls playing a frantic small sided game following the older girls game. Nakusp was defeated with the lone goal scored by Julie Faucher.
