A pandemic isn’t getting in the way of good old fashioned charity at Fernie School Aged Care (FSAC).
Children from the after-school club will be spending this week crafting and decorating Valentine’s Day goodies for their tenth annual charity fund-raising sale.
In a typical year, they’d be having a bake sale. Instead of cancelling, they chose to stick with it.
“We didn’t want to cancel all together as it’s such a great opportunity for the kids to come together and feel apart of a wider community and help the less fortunate,” said FSAC director, Mandy Potter.
“So this year they will be spending the week crafting and decorating and on Friday (Feb. 12) will set up a contact-less shop at the outdoor entry way to their classroom with a donation tin. This way people can purchase and support their cause without coming into the building or having contact with any of the class.”
The kids will be selling love bugs, cards, jewellery and candy packs for sale.
Proceeds from the sale will be going to Twin Meadows Animal Rescue Society – which was picked because of a recent pet adoption from the charity by one of the children’s families.
“Both the after-school club kids and the Fernie prep kids are so excited,” said Potter.
“It’s been something for them to look forward to which is so important after missing out on lots of fun events in 2020.”
