Kimberley has always been a community with the ability to rally around those in need, and the call is going out again to support one of our own. 14-year old, Grade 9 student Jenna Homeniuk is facing the fight of her young life, having been diagnosed with Leukemia just a week ago.

She is in Children’s Hospital in Calgary and will be there for at least seven months, according to family friend Shari Larmarche. The news has been devastating for Jenna’s family, especially her mother, Paula Thomas. Thomas is a single mother, who was working two jobs, but has given them up to be in Calgary with Jenna. “Mom is not leaving her side,” Lamarche said. “She will be there to support her all the way.”

This will be a challenging time for the family, not just emotionally but financially, Lamarche says. Thomas will need support in Calgary and when Jenna returns home there will be multiple expensive return trips to Calgary as an out-patient. A fundraiser has been planned for Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Marysville Arena. The evening will include a dinner, silent auction and dance. The Mark Creek Lions are on board to help out with the evening. Tickets are on sale at Black Bear in Kimberley. Adults $20, Students, $10, Children $5. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Many community members are rallying round to Fight For Jenna If you can help out or have an auction item contact Shari at 250-427-9513.
