A woman was taken to hospital after she suffered smoke inhalation following a fire that broke out in her kitchen on Friday afternoon.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue firefighters, from three fire stations, responded to a fire on Lynburn Crescent shortly before 12:30 p.m.
A witness at the scene said a 91-year-old woman allegedly attempted to put the fire out with a garden hose before firefighters arrived and ingested smoke during the process.
The fire was contained to the kitchen and later extinguished, but the interior of the home sustained smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
