A shoplifter who produced a knife in two stores in Duncan Mall in just 10 minutes on March 30 has been arrested
At around noon on that day, officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment responded to a report of a male shoplifter who produced a knife in one of the stores when confronted by staff.
As the RCMP officers were responding to that situation, they received a second call about the same man who was now at a different business in the area, had produced a knife and was threatening staff there.
The man fled with approximately $40 of food items.
Multiple officers responded and immediately located the man a short distance away from the business, taking him into custody without incident.
A 33-year-old Duncan man has been charged with theft under $5,000, breach of probation, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
The man appeared in court on April 1 to speak to these charges and is being held in custody to appear in court on April 23.
