Konanz to make ‘political announcement’

City of Penticton councillor said she will make a "major political announcement"

City of Penticton councillor Helena Konanz said she will be making “a major political announcement” on Thursday.

In May, Konanz announced that she will not run in the 2018 municipal election after seven years on Penticton City Council.

“I’m very grateful for the support and encouragement to run again, but I realize it is only fair that I let people know now that I will not seek another term on council. I hope this encourages other candidates to step forward to serve this beautiful city,” she said.

In 2013, Konanz announced her intention to seek the Conservative nomination in the South Okanagan West Kootenay riding for the 2015 federal election. Weeks after she decided to withdraw her name, stating holding the position of federal MP would not be in the best interests of her family at that time.

Konanz will make her announcement on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Bufflehead restaurant located at the Penticton Lakeside Resort.
