Coun. Bill Luchtmeijer tried to get the Kris Kringle craft sale back to Qualicum Beach, but he couldn’t find a colleague to go along with his plan on Monday night.
The huge pre-Christmas craft sale used to call Qualicum Beach home, but has been operating out of the Parksville Civic Centre for the past three years. Luchtmeijer put forward a motion to direct staff to come up with “solutions to the problems that caused (the craft show) to leave in the first place.” He said the owner of the business said $4,000 in rent charged by the town, plus the $4,000 that was charged by the town for its services related to the Kris Kringle in Qualicum Beach, made the event “unviable.” Luchtmeijer could not get any other councillor to second his motion.
