Lace up those dancing shoes and join Vernon talent for the 12th annual Dancing with the Vernon Stars in September.
The largest annual fundraiser gala and auction for the North Okanagan Hospice Society, Dancing with the Vernon Stars is in need of five more couples to round out the roster for the Sept. 27 event.
Local citizens are paired with professional dance instructors in an effort to raise funds for Hospice. NOHS currently has five dance teams participating, however, five more couples are needed. Any variety of duos are welcome to enter. Whether they want to learn ballroom, Broadway, hip hop, country or classical styles of dance, the coaches will specifically tailor a routine to their ability.

“It is truly amazing to watch the couples develop in the months leading up to the event. Many of them have never done anything like this before,” said Ruth Edwards, NOHS executive director. “The coaches are skillful at taking couples from their first awkward steps to helping them gain confidence as they learn the routines, to putting on incredible performances on the evening of the event. We are delighted to have these couples join us in making DWTVS a success every year.”
With assistance from Hospice staff, teams are asked to fundraise a minimum of $7,500 prior to the gala through their own individual activities in their communities. They will also attend a special launch party at the Schubert Centre in the evening on April 10. Dancers will get to meet each other along with the coaches and judges, share fundraising ideas and have their individual photo and video shoots done to help develop promotional material for the event.
