Work is well underway at Frank Jameson Community Centre to ensure residents and visitors will have a splash using the pool facilities this fall.
The pool was shut down at the end of day Aug. 17 for annual maintenance and will re-open to the public on Sept. 10.
Facilities maintenance supervisor Paul Kenny said the crews are well on schedule for a successful opening.
“It’s going really well; the leaks were corrected with a lot less stress — Public Works jumped right in and helped us out,” he said. “On the main pool, we’ve repaired the two leaks, we cleaned the gutters, we look for any grout that needs to be repaired, and we’re changing out the inlets.”
Kenny said this year’s maintenance has been pretty routine compared to other years.
“This year, with the leaks in the pool, that was the main focus,” he said. “We were losing some water.”
Some of the work still to come includes piping repairs in the building’s basement, replacement of the water supply, a new floor for the aquatic programmer office and painting of the oasis therapy pool.
Equipment safety checks are being performed, and the decommissioned tire horse swing will be removed as well.
Aside from a few patches in the deck, which were excavated to get to the pipe repairs, Kenny said pool enthusiasts can anticipate business as usual when the facility re-opens Sept. 10.
“They can expect fresh paint and a pool that works,” he said.
