Ladysmith RCMP says only one weather related accident reported so far

Ladysmith's neighbour Nanaimo has not been so lucky

Only one weather related car accident has been reported to the Ladysmith RCMP since snow began falling Monday morning.

The accident occurred on Monday at the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Roberts Street.

Other accidents may have occurred, but accidents only need to be reported if the damage is in excess of $10,000.

“If there’s a minor fender-bender, or they hit a sign they wouldn’t have to report, so I can’t say if there’s any other accidents,” Staff Sergeant Adam Tallboy said.

Ladysmith’s neighbour Nanaimo has not been so lucky. Monday saw 16 weather related car accidents in Nanaimo.

Snow is expected to continue falling throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Motorists are advised to use caution while travelling and stick to main routes that have been plowed.

“I have no idea what’s going to happen tomorrow once we get ‘Snowmaggedon’ as people are calling it. We’ll have to wait and see,” Tallboy said.
