Lake Country funds road infrastructure

On Tuesday, council considered finance strategy options for the Transportation for Tomorrow.

Lake Country residents will be forking out cash for upgrades to roads.

On Tuesday, council considered finance strategy options for the Transportation for Tomorrow.

“There was a majority vote for property taxes over the next 20 years,” said Mayor James Baker, adding that the other option for funding infrastructure was a parcel tax.

The Transportation for Tomorrow program looks at all aspects of transportation for the long-term and specifically maintenance, renewal and improvements.

“It’s something that needs doing and we will also go after grants to try and provide some (tax) relief,” said Baker.

The plan identified an additional $30 million for renewal and improvements, which means an extra $1.5 million per year to address a shortfall.

Also on Tuesday, council held preliminary discussions about the 2016 municipal budget.

“We will pare it down from the wish list to something achievable,” said Baker, adding that a projected tax increase has not been determined yet.
