FortisBC has been called out to Lakeshore Road after a van slid on ice and crashed into a power pole Friday morning.

FortisBC has been called out to Lakeshore Road after a van slid on ice and crashed into a power pole Friday morning.

Duane Hansen said “it’s a miracle” no one was injured in the collision.

“I hit a patch of black ice and the van started to veer to the right and slid right into the pole,” said Hansen.

“It took the pole out; we winded up beside (a) small shed, but everybody was alright.”

Hansen added he has driven that stretch of road before, and he had just equipped his van with new snow tires the week prior.

Kelowna RCMP Const. Poschenrieder said FortisBC crews are on hand to deal with the damaged power pole.

“We’d like to keep the road closed until it’s safe for drivers to get through,” said Poschenrieder, who noted the delay could be an hour.

“The telephone pole (was) completely sheared.”

Poschenrieder noted no charges are being considered at this time.
