A Langford man appeared in court Wednesday facing charges relating to an early morning armed robbery the day before.
At around 4 a.m. on Tuesday, West Shore RCMP received a report that two victims had been robbed on the grounds of Savory elementary in Langford.
A man who police say was known to the victims, despite his wearing a mask, produced a weapon and stole cellphones and other electronics, the report said. A detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle were provided to RCMP shortly after the incident.
Later that evening, members of the detachment ‘s crime reduction unit tracked down the vehicle travelling on Peatt Road in Langford. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspect without incident.
The stolen phones were recovered from the vehicle, along with drugs, drug paraphernalia, a pellet gun and a cattle prod.
James Houston, 29, was taken into custody and appeared in court to face charges.
West Shore RCMP spokesperson Const. Alex Bérubé said the investigation is continuing. he noted that the “prompt and detailed information” given to police by the robbery victims helped officers track down the suspect quickly.
