Cruising along in a pink Cadillac, Langford Mayor Stew Young was the first car to drive on the Leigh Road Interchange on Saturday night.
“I was surprised by how many vehicles were waiting to use the interchange,” said Michelle Mahovlich, Langford director of engineering.
The three ramps opened on the interchange June 15 at 6 p.m. Before the interchange opened staffed worked on adjusting the the entrances and exits of McCallum, Savory, Leigh and Spencer Roads. The signal lights at the Trans Canada Highway and Spencer Road were removed.
Crews are working on the highway for the next week and will be working on the interchange for about one month.
