A Langley woman well known for her right-leaning views has thrown her hat in the ring for federal politics.
Tamara Jansen officially announced Wednesday evening that she is seeking the nomination to be the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for the Cloverdale – Langley City riding dduring the upcoming federal election.
Jansen is a well-known Langley entrepreneur, who has since retired but is still somewhat active in the family business – Darvonda Nurseries in Milner. She built up that business with her husband of 31 years, Byron.
In recent years she has become an advocate on the local and national stage for a variety of issues.
She’s been vocal on issues such as pro-life and medically assisted dying, provincial payroll health care tax, and most recently she spoke out against the federal government’s requirements for companies applying for summer job grants.
“After much prayer and discussions with my family, I am excited to seek the Conservative nomination to run in election 2019,” Jansen said at a campaign launch in Cloverdale Wednesday.
“My extensive business background, along with my lifetime of volunteering in the community will help me stand up in Ottawa for businesses and families in Cloverdale-Langley,” she told friends and family in the crowd.
“”The Trudeau Liberals have decided to wage war on small businesses here in Cloverdale – Langley City, and across the country. I bring real life experience to the table that will allow me to speak out and fight back in the House of Commons,” she said.
“It would be a tremendous honour to serve my community in this role, and I am asking for support from across the riding to help me take this important first step to becoming our next Member of Parliament,” Jansen elaborated. She needs to win the party nomination locally, then the winner of that will carry the Conservative banner into the next federal election in October 2019.
