Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce has been cancelled it’s Tuesday, March 17 dinner meeting, as well as at least one other upcoming chamber event.

The monthly dinner meeting was to have featured Langley’s municipal, provincial, and federal leaders for the annual Langley Leadership Panel discussion and question-and-answer session.

“After careful consideration the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce has made the difficult decision to postpone our Tuesday, March 17 dinner meeting,” said chamber CEO Colleen Clark.

“We will reschedule the panel discussion for a future date to be determined,” she said.

“We do understand, that at this time, the province has not issued advice on cancelling large events, but we feel that at this time it is the best interest of our members and our organization to postpone.”

City and Township Mayors Val van den Broek and Jack Froese, MLAs Mary Polak and Rich Coleman, and MPs Tamara Jansen and Rich Coleman had all been expected to attend.

The meeting is one of a number of events in B.C. and around the world that are being cancelled as large gatherings come under increasing scrutiny due to efforts to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

In addition to next week’s dinner meeting, the chamber has put the brakes on their upcoming Lunch & Learn session about digital health for businesses. That meeting was set for Wednesday, March 18, at the chamber office.

Later in the day on Thursday, the chamber also announced cancellation of its Business After Hours Mixer that was set for Thursday, March 26 at the Sandman Signature Hotel.

Anyone who has purchased tickets to the dinner meeting will receive a full refund or credit.

“We will be keeping you up-to-date on future GLCC events, so please take a moment to make sure you are following our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, [and] Instagram,” Clark added.
