Having all walks of life come together is the goal for the Langley woman hosting an upcoming community dinner.

Stacey Wakelin wants to bring the community together for a second year to enjoy a meal together despite diversities.

“Last year I hosted one on my own and I really enjoyed it.”

Wakelin said there’s always a need for more positivity and community connection, which is why she’s hosting a second community dinner on Nov. 24.

“With the first one last year, it was a great group. The goal is to bring people from different walks of life together to enjoy a meal and conversation.”

It’s her own experiences that led Wakelin to the idea of a community dinner.

“Personally I’ve had some experience over the past few years whether it’s volunteering in the community and seeing neighbours that are isolated due to circumstances, whether it’s homelessness, newcomers to Canada, or seniors who are isolated.”

This year Wakelin is accompanied by event organizer Brad Dirks and other volunteers from the community.

The dinner can cater up to 100 guests and some tickets have been donated for those who can’t afford to purchase one.

Wakelin is reaching out to community groups to help disperse the donated tickets.

Ride arrangements can be made for seniors who are living in isolation and have no means of transportation.

“We really don’t want anyone to feel excluded either because they don’t have transporation or financial means.”

The dinner is on Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the United Church on 21562 Old Yale Rd.

Tickets cost $7 and are available online at Eventbrite by searching Community Dinner Langley.

Tickets are also available at the door, but guests need to RSVP before Nov. 20 and can do so by calling Stacey Wakelin at 778-808-8954.
