Langley eatery looking for guys named Mike

If your name is Mike, Michael or Mikey, it’s time to make plans for Saturday’s dinner. It’s part of the Mikes Unite party being held by Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual from noon to 5 p.m. on June 27.

The overall event is built around breaking the largest same name gathering, first name, world record while raising funds for a great cause according to CEO of Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual, Mike Cordoba.

“It was an idea of basically trying to do something big for charity,” Cordoba said. “We knew if we got our stores involved… it would be a great big celebration party.”

KidSport Canada is the recipient of the funds to be raised and Cordoba feels the connection is a good one.

From June 16 to 27, $1 from each Mikeburger sold will be donated to KidSport. An additional $1 from each entree sold during the Mikes Unite party, and $0.25 for each social share with #mikesunite on June 27 will be added to that total.

Social media shares of #mikesunite will be counted from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

“Whether we break the record or not, KidSport is going to win on all of this and that’s what it’s really about,” he said after noting that the hope is to break the world’s record for the most Mikes in one place.

Of course the world record breaking attempt will happen in one location − at Mosaic Stadium for the Saskatchewan Roughriders home opener, but the company wants all Mikes to be part of the event across Western Canada.

“We have 25 locations all participating on June 27,” said Cordoba. “And we’re hoping to raise some good money for a great charity.”

According to Cordoba, representatives from KidSport will be on hand at restaurants around Western Canada during the June 27th events.
