L’Arche Comox Valley, the sponsor of the Valley-wide I Belong! campaign, holds its annual general meeting on Friday, Nov. 21 at St. Peter’s Church Hall on Church Street in Comox. A reception at 6:30 p.m. with desserts, tea and coffee will be followed by presentations at 7 p.m.
L’Arche provides residences, learning, creative arts, social activities and opportunities for lasting relationships for adults with developmental disabilities. Its I Belong! campaign is raising funds to build an 8,000 square foot facility in Courtenay with apartments, studios, workplace and outreach services. The campaign which began a year ago has the goal of raising $800,000. Over $550,000 has been raised to date.
The AGM will hear from the chairs of the campaign as well as the L’Arche executive director, Christine Monier, and the board chair, Tony Reynolds, about the progress of the campaign, the work of the society over the past year and the plans to implement the construction phase of the project. Members of the society will elect a new board to carry its work through the exciting prospect of beginning the project in the coming year
A PowerPoint presentation will set out the goals and activities of L’Arche across Canada and the challenge L’Arche presents to encourage society to end the isolation of individuals with developmental disabilities. All are invited to attend to learn more about the development of this vital community facility.
