The driver of a grey Mazda vehicle was shaken up, but unharmed when a large tree branch fell on her car as she was driving southbound on Grand Street Thursday afternoon.
The incident took place shortly after 1 p.m. near Seventh Avenue.
Gina Young, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, said she didn’t hear or see any signs of the danger until it happened.
The impact shattered the car’s windshield and dented parts of the car.
Young said she couldn’t escape through the driver’s side door and had to get out from the passenger side.
Witnesses at the scene told police a garbage truck backing into the nearby alley hit the tree, but the large branch didn’t fall right away. Police have not yet confirmed the report.
District crews were called to help free the car and remove the branches from the road. Grand Street was closed to traffic in both directions for a couple of hours.
