Large, distinct tow truck stolen in Errington

Police say they have no leads at this point; the owner still has the keys

Police are on the lookout for a 1976 Kenworth tow truck stolen from a rural Errington property in the 1100 block of Smithers Road late last month.

The vehicle disappeared when the owner of the residence was out of town for the weekend between 10 a.m. April 24 and 7 a.m. April 27, according to Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman.

“(The owner) retains the keys,” said Foreman. “Someone many have jimmied the locks, it’s an older truck so someone could have hot wired it or something could have been done to the ignition.”

Foreman said Mounties have no leads at this point.

“The problem is that a tow truck coming and going isn’t uncommon in the area in the middle of the night so it might not have raised any suspicions,” he said.

However, police are hoping that because the missing vehicle is “very large and distinct” someone may have information that could lead to its whereabouts.

If you have any information pertaining to this incident please contact Cst. Laurie at the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
