There’s still plenty of time to take in the Armstrong fair.
Today is the final day of the Interior Provincial Exhibition and those who haven’t been there yet are encouraged to stop by for some fun.
“They need to see the alpacas, the swine, horses, poultry and the cows,” said Yvonne Paulson, general manager.
“There is so much livestock people wouldn’t usually get a chance to see.”
Beyond the animals, fair-goers can take a look at some prize winning produce, including giant pumpkins.
“Agriculture is a real drawing card for the fair,” said Paulson.
Enthusiastic crowds have also been jamming into the grandstands for the nightly rodeo.
The fair started Wednesday and one of the highlights Thursday, was the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.
“We had all sorts of dance groups and constant revolving of people at the celebrations all day,” said Paulson.
“People were singing O Canada and holding hands.”
It’s taken an army behind the scenes to ensure the success of the IPE and many of them are volunteers from Armstrong-Spallumcheen or elsewhere in the region.
“We couldn’t do this show without them,” said Paulson.
“I was talking to one woman who has been welcoming visitors to the fair for 26 years. Their (volunteers) spirit is amazing.”
