There have been a number of new COVID-19 cases in the Terrace area, according to the latest data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
There were 29 new cases in the Terrace Local Health Area between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2. The previous week, Dec. 20 to Dec. 26, Terrace saw 31 new cases.
There were 24 cases in the Nisga’a Local Health Area between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2. The Nisga’a region had one of the highest rates of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in B.C. over that time period, with over 20 cases per 100,000 people. Other jurisdictions that had high rates per 100,000 people include Surrey, Abbotsford and Burns Lake.
Terrace also had a high rate, with over 15 cases per 100,000 cases. That figure actually decreased over the previous week’s data (Dec. 20 to Dec. 26), when Terrace had over 20 cases per 100,000.
Kitselas First Nation and Kitsumkalum First Nation, which are included in the Terrace Local Health Area jurisdiction, remain on high alert after a cluster of cases among the Kitselas community was announced Dec. 31.
