Charges are pending after an Oak Bay police officer noticed a motorcycle northbound on Beach Drive near Glenlyon-Norfolk School on July 24 just before 10 p.m. The bike was being driven significantly faster than the 40 km/h posted speed limit. The officer attempted to pull the motorcycle over but the rider accelerated away from police. The police officer did not engage in a pursuit however followed the route where the motorcycle was last seen. A thorough patrol of the area located the motorcycle and rider, who had lost control and gone off the road near Cattle Point landing in the bushes. Police determined the rider had a motorcycle learner’s licence with a restriction not to ride after dark. The rider was taken to hospital and released the next day.
