Kelowna council is seeking members for three advisory committees

Kelowna council is seeking members for three advisory committees for the 2018-2022 term.

Positions are currently vacant on the agricultural and heritage advisory committees as well as the board of variance. Applications are now being accepted and the deadline has been extended to Feb. 1.

Joining the council committees is an opportunity for industry professionals and members of the public to share valuable insights from their experience and to get involved with their local government.

Advisory committees generally meet once a month to review applications and policy matters as they relate to the subject area. The Agricultural Advisory Committee is comprised of seven members from the agricultural community who provide advice to council on farming, land use and sustainable agriculture matters.

With professional expertise in design, planning, construction or historical information and heritage conservation, the five-member Heritage Advisory Committee provides input into heritage-related development applications. The committee also advises Council about the heritage significance of any building, structure or landscape feature within Kelowna.

The Board of Variance is an independent body that hears appeals and deals with requests for minor variances for relaxing zoning bylaw regulations on a case-by-case basis. Five members sit on the board, which meets only when an application is submitted. Two seats are currently vacant.

All positions are voluntary and appointed by council upon review of the applications. Applications are kept on file for future consideration as positions become available.

Applications are being accepted online at kelowna.ca/council or visit the Office of the City Clerk on the second floor of City Hall, 1435 Water Street.
