People in the rural areas surrounding Creston were asked to vote for fire protection

To the Editor;

Upon reading in the latest Advance, “Proposed New Fire Hall Referendum”, the Creston Mayor states the population of 5,351 and with the rural fire protection at approximately 8000 so with these figures and the amount of taxes I am paying raises the question why am I not an eligible voter.

People in the rural areas surrounding Creston were asked to vote for fire protection, with supposedly little increase to our taxes. We voted yes for fire protection from Creston and with this, my taxes went up 23%.

I still wonder why I can’t have some say, a vote, in this referendum. With thoughts to another tax increase (365 coffees at $1.50), my answer to the new fire hall is NO.
