Liberals announce $16 million investment in court services at Surrey press conference

SURREY — Provincial government MLAs held a press conference at Surrey provincial courthouse on Monday afternoon to announce the investment of more than $16 million to help resolve child protection cases and improve service with respect to family and civil law.

The Legal Services Society’s Parents Legal Centre will expand from Vancouver to Surrey, earmarking $2 million for a full-service Justice Access Centre (JAC) to be added to Surrey’s provincial courthouse in 2018.

The society will receive $8.4 million in new funding over three years for the Parents Legal Centre, which helps families resolve child protection matters “earlier and collaboratively.”

“Our government is transforming justice services to improve access to justice for low-income British Columbians,” said Suzanne Anton, attorney general and minister of justice.
