The Okanagan Regional Library presented an update on their activities at the recent Town Council meeting.
The Okanagan Regional library’s feature film collection’s usage has increased by 149% and their Library to Go option has raised 82%. The ORL has also been working on how to make their libraries more convenient and making access more convenient as well. This includes physical access, technology access and plain language.
The ORL is working on how to best serve rural communities to create a combination of virtual, kiosk, mobile and branch services.
There is now a new area librarian for the southern branches of the Okanagan Regional Library and this summer will bring in a north area librarian as well.
In 2010, there were 37,372 visits to the library, this equals to about 700 visits a week to the Golden branch. 75,382 items circulated which adds to about 11 items for every Goldenite. The computer work stations which include wireless access were used 7,000 times in 2010 and 413 people attended 37 programs. These programs include story times, class visits, author visits and exams.
