The Lions Great Bridge will be closed for several days this summer to have its support beams painted.
Work on the pedestrian bridge, located on the Waterfront Promenade just north of Maffeo Sutton Park, started Tuesday.
The bridge will be closed for up to six working days while parks and recreation workers erect scaffolding, but the bridge will be open over the weekend.
The bridge will remain open while the beams are painted, but will be temporarily closed again for a few days after painting is completed so the scaffolding can be disassembled.
During closure times pedestrian are asked to use a signed detour route over the Pearson Bridge on Terminal Avenue. Signs marking the detour route will be in place along the walkway.
Work crews have chosen this time to paint the bridge to take advantage of dry weather required for the coating application to be most effective.
