Past and present Lister residents from around the province will be returning to Lister Deer Lodge Park to celebrate Lister’s 100th anniversary June 7-9 with a weekend celebration recreating the historic Lister Day Picnics.

The weekend’s festivities kick off with opening ceremonies on Friday night.

“Mayor Toyota, Regional Director Tanya Wall, and the Lister Community Association President Kevin Wall will say a few words to honour the early Lister pioneers, the people that came to Lister in the teens, 20s, 30s, and the 40s, and built the foundations of the community. We will be asking relatives of some of these old families to come up for a ribbon and cake cutting ceremony,” said Lister Centennial Committee member Ken Sommerfeld.

Live music and entertainment will be taking place on The Lister Centennial Stage throughout the weekend.

Friday nights’ entertainment includes a family barn dance called by Karen Dignan followed by the Huscroft Family Circus featuring Kalen Huscroft, Zavallennahn Huscroft, Velle Hushcroft Weitman, Aaron Weitman, and Karl Sommerfeld.

Saturday’s live music lineup features Jackie Gingas, Mike Stenhouse, Just Us, Howlin’ Wannabes, Jeremiah Staggs, the Fresh Tomatoes, and Carl Erickson and the Carltones.

Other highlights of the weekend include displays of Lister history and farm equipment, softball games, tug of war, fish pond, water balloon toss and an airplane drop for the kids on Saturday.

Be sure to come to the celebration on an empty stomach; the Creston Lions Club will be hosting a pancake breakfast Saturday and Sunday; the Lister Community Association will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers from 11-5 on Saturday followed by a roast beef dinner service hosted by the Lister Centennial Committee.

The Lister Centennial Celebration promises to be a weekend to remember, filled with memories, and friends. For more information and schedule, updates visit Lister Centennial Celebration Event on Facebook.
