With Halloween on its way, a local couple known for going above and beyond with their decorations is already hard at work, spookifying their property in anticipation for the trick or treaters.

Bev and Ken Smith, who have been decorating their Riverview Cres. home for 25 years now, said it’s their way of giving back to the community.

“Being retired, I don’t belong to any clubs or anything, so this is my way of contributing,” Bev said, adding their home gets roughly 200 trick or treaters every year.

“This was all bush and we bought this property, cleared it out and made it into kind of a park and we decided to start decorating when I retired from teaching.”

Bev said she was an art teacher before retirement, and all the decorations on the property were created by her as home art projects.

Every year she adds up to 10 new creations, with this year having wooden panels with Beast from Beauty and the Beast and the sultan from Aladdin added to the property’s decorations.

All the painted wooden panels also serve double duty, as the reverse sides are painted with Christmas themes to decorate the yard come December.

Anyone wanting to check out the Smith’s spooky decorations while making their rounds on Halloween this year can find them at 377 Riverview Cres in Clearwater.
