Local skater Bree Chardonnens will be representing the Kootenay region in this year’s BC Winter Games.
Thirteen-year-old Chardonnens will be attending the games in Fort St. John with three other skaters from the Kootenay region, as well as her coach Kathy Sutherland.
“My goal this season was to make it onto the region team for the winter games,” Chardonnens said. “I am excited to attend and really look forward to the opening and closing ceremonies and the experiences that will come with attending the games. Of course, I want to achieve a personal best skate and I have been working hard on and off the ice to help me be at my best.”
Chardonnens added that she really just wants the experience to be fun for herself, her coach and her teammates. The BC Winter Games will play out over the course of four days, with athletes coming from all over British Columbia to compete from February 20-23.
“I am very happy that Kathy gets to be our coach and chaperone at the games,” Chardonnens added. “She has been my coach since I started competing and I couldn’t imagine anyone else that I would want to have alongside me for the event. She is always positive, encouraging and supporting and makes skating fun.”
