A Ladysmith senior is out thousands after being victimized by a recent telephone scam.
Const. Tim Wang of Ladsymith RCMP said the detachment was contacted on April 10 by a representative of Phone Busters.
The telephone scam investigator said a male senior citizen of Ladysmith reported he was a victim of a scam and lost over $11,000.
“The telemarketing scam originated from Jamaica and got victims to cash in money orders. When the victim tried to stop, the telemarketer used threats and intimidation even threatening to burn his house down,” Wang said in a media release.
Phone Busters and the Ladysmith RCMP have investigations ongoing into the case.
Police victim’s services were also involved to provide support.
The victim was not identified and further details were unavailable at press time.
