The Boundless vocal ensemble which features 10 singers from Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, and Creston, BC will be performing in the King’s Singer’s 50th Anniversary Concert in Carnegie Hall, New York City this Sunday, April 22.
Last spring, Boundless conductor, Vicki Blake Thompson, sent an audition CD from the group’s “Stardust” performance to Distinguished Concerts International New York which is hosting the performance. To their delight, Boundless was selected to be part of a larger choir backing up the King’s Singers for their performance. While most of the other choirs chosen come from Canada and the US, they also are from as far away as Australia, Wales, and South Africa.
“The King’s Singers” have long been a favorite group of mine,” said director Vicki Blake Thompson, “To stand on stage and perform with them is, at the same time, absolutely humbling, and a deep honor. Boundless is thrilled to have this opportunity.”
Last week Boundless had to send in a video of their own performance of the works they’ll be singing in NY for the NY conductors’ perusal. “Singing songs which sometimes divide into 8 parts with just 10 singers is a huge challenge, especially with the dissonant contemporary pieces. I was so pleased with the work we did to prepare. And now we are off for the sheer joy of performing with one of the world’s best a cappella ensembles,” said Blake Thompson, “in one of the world’s best music venues. Who could believe we’d ever get to do this?”
