Loewen to seek fifth term on Abbotsford council

Long-time councillor was first elected in 2005

Coun. Dave Loewen took to Twitter Saturday to announce that he would run for re-election in this fall’s municipal election.

Loewen will be seeking a fifth term, having first been elected in 2005.

A long-time teacher, Loewen taught for 32 years at Mennonite Education Institute before retiring in 2013. He garnered the sixth-most votes in the 2013 election.

In an extensive blog post posted Saturday, Loewen strongly endorsed the city’s direction and the master plans, neighbourhood plans and studies undertaken over the past four years. He also wrote about the need to keep an eye on city finances in order to pay for infrastructure and capital projects in the future.

“We can’t rest on what we’ve achieved to this point,” Loewen wrote. “Although much has been accomplished in this term, much more remains to be done! I look forward to the opportunity to serve this city for another term and to tackle the work that needs to be done, should I be re-elected, to realize the vision of Abbotsford as ‘Hub of the Fraser Valley.'”
