A long-time Malakwa resident was killed Monday in a fatal head-on collision in Spallumcheen.

The Eagle Valley News learned Tuesday, at press time, that Olive Rokosh, 67, was killed as a result of a three-vehicle collision that occurred shortly before noon on Highway 97A, between Eagle Rock Road and Pleasant Valley Road.

Police report that a head-on crash occurred in the northbound lane, and that a third vehicle became involved moments later.

Police said Monday that one of the vehicles overturned in the crash, trapping the occupant, who died as a result of her injuries.

Three other people were taken from the crash scene to Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Two were admitted and the third was treated and released. A man who was injured in the incident was later transported to hospital in Vancouver.

One of the injured is from the North Okanagan and two are from the Lower Mainland.

A funeral for Rokosh is scheduled for Friday, 11 a.m. at the Malakwa Community Hall. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be sent to BC Children’s Hospital.

Police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the crash to call the Vernon detachment at 250-545-7171 and ask to speak to the traffic accident investigators.
