Byron Louis is ready to get back to work.
Louis was elected to a second two-year term as chief of the Okanagan Indian Band Tuesday.
“I’m looking forward to continuing with some of the process made in the last few years,” he said.
“But there are some improvements that can be made with economic development, administration, education and how to use the land.”
Louis topped the polls with 256 out of 575 votes cast.
Coming in second place was former chief Fabian Alexis with 132 votes while former chief Dan Wilson received 129 votes and Bernadine Marchand received 58 votes.
Out of 25 candidates for councillor, those elected are Allan Louis, Leland Wilson, Tim Isaac, Diana Louis, Homer Alexis, Coola Louis, Raymond Marchand, Lyle Brewer, Russell Williams and Barbra Cole.
“We have a council we can work with,” said Louis.
“The next few years should be very productive.”
Louis believes there is a need for council to focus on economic development as a way of creating a sustainable community.
“It has to be at the top so we can do everything else,” he said.
Louis also believes the band will continue to be focused on working with its neighbours, including the City of Vernon.
“It (relationships) is a reality. We’re not an island unto ourselves,” he said.
