The United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada will honour its 100th anniversary with the unveiling of a new commemorative stone in the Mayor’s Grove at Beacon Hill Park on July 22.
The stone was first laid when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth visited Victoria in 1939 – the first reigning monarchs to do so. While here, the royal couple also planted a tree.
Over the years, the stone has deteriorated, so the Loyalists association thought its 100th anniversary would be the perfect time for a new stone, said spokesman Frans Compeer.
Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon will unveil the stone at 2 p.m., followed by cake and refreshments.
