Lyle Thomas promoted to top job at Princeton’s municipal hall

The Town of Princeton has a new boss.

The Town of Princeton has a new boss.

Lyle Thomas, who has been the acting Chief Administrative Officer since Cheryl Martens resigned from the job in November, was recently appointed to the position on a permanent basis.

Mayor Spencer Coyne made the announcement before Monday night’s council meeting.

In an interview with The Spotlight Coyne said the job was not posted, and that Thomas was the natural person to promote.

“Lyle is a team player. He’s a good people person. If you have been in our office lately you can feel the atmosphere…It’s a really happy place and I attribute a lot of that to him.”

Thomas, who was not available to comment following the release, is the former recreation director for the municipality.

That role has not yet been filled, but responsibilities have been shifted, said Coyne.

“We’ve moved some stuff around. The visitor’s centre is now under economic development and we have an arena facility manager…Lyle used to look after [those] directly.”

Coyne said he anticipates the town will advertise for a new recreation director in late spring.
