Machete wielder claims it was for sliver

Man found with machete in A&W

A man found with a machete in the Main Street A&W bathroom last week was found to be breaking probation conditions. Police responded to a complaint on Jan. 10 of a man cutting himself in the bathroom of the restaurant. The man told police he was attempting to remove a sliver from his hand. He was found to be in possession of a large machete which he was keeping in his pants. The man was sober and cooperative police said, however, he was breaching his probation conditions. He was taken into custody and released with a promise to appear in court.

Break-in at Trademark

A break and enter occurred on Jan. 14 at Trademark Industries on Commercial Place. Suspects attempted to steal two tow trucks damaging the ignitions. Around 2 a.m. on Jan. 15 police observed a male dressed in black while making patrols in the area who took off on foot. Police established a perimeter and deployed a police service dog, who tracked the suspect up the ravine near the Cantex Engineering and Construction property. Police were unable to locate the suspect and believe he got away in an awaiting vehicle.

Gun threat

Police were unable to identify the man who said he had a gun after getting caught stealing from a vehicle at Commercial Place. When the man was caught stealing from the vehicle on Jan. 14 by another individual he said he had a gun and took off with multiple items from the vehicle. Police attempted to track the man with a police service dog. A sledgehammer was located nearby, and police did locate a male, but they were unable to confirm it was the same man who committed the theft. The man they located was not in possession of any stolen items.
