B.C.’s three main political parties are ready for the byelection, whenever it’s officially called.
Sheila Malcolmson was acclaimed as the B.C. NDP’s candidate for the Nanaimo riding in a byelection expected to happen early in 2019. Malcolmson was confirmed at a meeting today, Dec. 16, at the Beban Park social centre.
In a press release, she called the coming byelection “the most important … in B.C. history” and said the current NDP government is working for people.
“The people of Nanaimo have a clear choice,” she said. “Do we want to continue with the progress we’re seeing with a John Horgan government, or do we want to go back to the B.C. Liberals?”

Malcolmson has worked her last day at Nanaimo-Ladysmith MP and is no longer receiving a member of Parliament paycheque, though her resignation is officially effective Jan. 2.
Yesterday, B.C. Green Party members in Nanaimo chose Michele Ney as that party’s candidate for the byelection.
In November, Tony Harris was confirmed as the B.C. Liberals’ candidate after earlier being announced as that party’s intended candidate.
