Man, 75, arrested in connection with historical sex assault

Offences occurred while the accused was employed at Royal Athletic Park from 1988 until 2003.

A 75-year-old Saanich man is facing charges in connection with a historical sexual abuse case that dates back more than 14 years.

Few details have been released, but police said the offences occurred during the time Andre “Andy” Van Goor was employed as the supervisor of Royal Athletic Park from 1988 until 2003.

An investigation was sparked when the victim, now an adult, came forward to police. Van Goor was arrested Tuesday and faces two charges of sexual exploitation and sexual assault.

Detectives continue to investigate and believe there may be more victims or witnesses they have yet to speak with.

Anyone with information about Van Goor’s activities with children and youth is asked to call 250-995-7654 or the Men’s Trauma Centre at 250-381-6367 or visit menstrauma.com.
