The trial for a man accused of stabbing his landlord will not be going ahead.
Court records indicate the assault with a weapon charge laid against Jamin Beriah Cockram last fall was abated on Monday.
Charges are abated when an accused person dies awaiting trial.
Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark said they learned of Cockram’s death after receiving a report of a sudden death in the 1000-block of Graf Road on April 17.
“He was found in a place where he was staying,” added Barb McLintock of the B.C. Coroners Service.
“There was not an obvious cause of death,” she said. “We’re still trying to figure out precisely what happened to him.
“There is no suggestion that there’s anything suspicious about it.”
McLintock said tests are still being run to determine exactly what led to his death.
Cockram, 33, was arrested on Nov. 28, 2012 after a 55-year-old Kelowna man was stabbed while trying to evict a tenant from a Rosemead Avenue home, police said at the time. The landlord was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Cockram was initially held in custody, but was released on March 26 after perfecting bail.
He was scheduled to have a two day trial in late May.
