In the second week of 2019, Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 210 calls for service. Of those calls, 121 occurred between Monday Jan. 7 and Thursday Jan. 10. Friday through Sunday at midnight, saw 89 occurrences. Below are some highlights from the weekend.
Armed robbery
One man was arrested following a report of an armed robbery on Lakelse Avenue.
On Sunday Jan. 13, around 12:20 a.m., Terrace RCMP responded to a report of an attempted theft involving a knife at a business on the 4700 block of Lakelse Avenue. A man matching the suspect’s description was located and arrested shortly after for offences including theft, breach, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. He was held for court.
Impaired driving
A man lost his license for 90 days after failing a roadside breath test.
On Jan. 12, around 1:30 a.m., police stopped a Ford truck on Hwy 16 W near Kenny Street after it was observed wandering the roadway and speeding. Roadside breath tests were administered to the driver, which registered fail readings.
The driver received a 30-day vehicle impound and 90-day driving prohibition.
Assault
Police are investigating after two men reported being assaulted at a business on Hwy 16. Around 3:45 a.m., Saturday Jan. 12, police were called to the location after a group of 10-15 people made insulting comments to two men, then assaulted them. Police spoke to those present. The investigation continues.
Truck on the tracks
A semi-truck went into the ditch and onto the train tracks Saturday morning.
Around 10 a.m., Jan. 12, 2019 Terrace RCMP were called to assist with a motor vehicle collision involving a semi about five kilometers west of the 110 marker on Hwy 16 W. The semi-truck had travelled across the oncoming traffic lane and into the ditch, where its wheels were impeding the train track. The weather was rainy and slushy at the time. Damage and injuries were reported as minor.
All trains were stopped while the truck was removed from the track.
Disturbance files
Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 28 disturbance-related files this weekend, Jan. 11-13.
Disturbance calls included Cause a Disturbance, Mischief/Loss of Enjoyment to Property, and Intoxicated or Consuming Liquor in Public.
Of those calls, about 12 people sobered up in Terrace Detachment cells after being arrested at numerous locations including the 4500 block of Park Avenue, the 4400 and 4600 block of Lakelse Avenue, the 4500 block of Greig Avenue, the 3100 block of Kalum Street, and other spots.
On Friday night, five men and one woman sobered up safely with police. Saturday saw a youth, and four men arrested and sobered up, one of which was also arrested for breaching conditions and later released on a Promise to Appear in Court. Sunday had one intoxicated man lodged in cells for his safety.
Domestics
Terrace RCMP responded to four verbal domestics over the weekend. One man was arrested to sober up safely and prevent continuation.
