Man detained after Sumas Way single-vehicle crash

Police were on the scene just seconds after a car was involved in a single-car crash in Abbotsford

Abbotsford Police detained the driver of a black sedan just moments after a one-vehicle collision on Sumas Way Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. just north of South Fraser Way/Sumas Way intersection. A large sound involving a single vehicle could be heard from The News’ newsroom, which was within sight of the crash scene. Within seconds, police were on the scene. An officer approached the vehicle, and the driver quickly exited and allowed himself to be handcuffed. He was then led to one of three police vehicles on the scene. The driver was later released from police custody.

Officers then collected pieces of broken vehicle from both sides of Sumas Way, which is divided by a median where the incident occurred. The vehicle was soon towed away.
