A man has died in hospital after an assault on Baker Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Nelson police stated Wednesday night they are now treating the file “as a suspicious death following the regrettable passing of the male victim.”

The man, who was attacked near Pharmasave in the 600 block of Baker Street Tuesday afternoon, was given first aid by a member of the public before BC Ambulance and Nelson Fire and Rescue. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition but later died.

Nelson police arrested a male suspect Tuesday afternoon and he is set to appear in provincial court next week. Police are not releasing the names of the victim or accused, but say both were previously known to them.

Nelson Police are continuing their investigation into the matter and would like to reiterate their plea to the public for any witnesses or persons with information regarding this event to contact Nelson Police Department at 250-354-3919 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
